Sad day
today. We said goodbye to our very dear relative, friend and
colleague Corinne Kruger. See her work at
http://www.corinnekruger.nl/.
She is going to be deeply missed. Bergeijk, 15.33 pm.
Photographic sketch book made by the Dutch photographer Jaap Bijsterbosch. Oogenblikjaap means just a moment Jaap, but also eye and view Jaap. So dear visitor, stay awhile and have a look around!

It was very
quiet in the Foam museum. But the atmosphere was great, almost
serene.....And yes I liked the portrait exhibition 'van Loon' , and couldn't
quite understand the function of the enlarged test strips in another
show. Amsterdam, 1.37 pm.

Sometimes
it is necessary to add an extra element to a photograph to emphasize
the atmosphere at a spot. Here I used the shadow of my hand. Diemen,

The
advertisement column has a very yellow color. The dark clouds in the background were a small present from the weather this 2nd
day of spring 2015. Diemen, 3.46 pm.

This was
the only way today to capture the calmness of the sea today. There
was a very fragile silence. Castricum aan Zee, 1.17 pm.

Strange
spot. These trunks are all that is left from a beautiful park. All
because of some motor highways. Progress? Yes, Ladies & Gents I

A message
for the spectators at my web log. I know you're looking out there,
according to my counting system. Thank you for looking at my
photographs until now. Hope to see you tomorrow & the day after
tomorrow & the day.......This project of a picture a day will be
continued, as far I am concerned. Photo: Diemen, 4.32 pm.

At the
moment I am intrigued by capturing nothingness in photographs. Btw
that's not the same as lack of quality. But some spots can be so
desolated, containing no excitement at all. Still those places
trigger me. The photo today is made of such a spot. It is to be seen
from the train platform for de direction to Amsterdam. Of course I
needed the gray weather for the picture. Diemen 4.08 pm.

March 14.
The
experiment today was about a relationship between a panoramic format
and a relatively long exposure time just to capture the feeling of a
passing rally against the high housing rents in Amsterdam. I
must say that I fully agree with the purpose of the rally. It is an
outrageous shame how housing rents are increased to a point that most
people just cannot afford. At the other hand house owners are
supported in many ways. Amsterdam 2.45 am.
March 13.
2 things
about this photograph. 1: it is about the anonymity of a big city.
Although having a small dog tells something about a character. 2:
This was taken by hand with 1/10 of second. Sharpness thanks to the electronic
lens stabilization at the modern camera. Antwerp 4.58 pm.

Cycling
home I saw this abandoned night terrace. I fell in love with the
three red balls, which functioned as some kind of a romantic
illumination. By the way it was one of the finest days of the year
until now. Amsterdam 7.40 pm.

Sometimes the nothingness of a
location can result into an intriguing photograph. It’s all about the richness
of the banal. Diemen, 9.55 am.

Building
sites at night, they fascinate me. Watch the plane stripes in the
dark sky, a plane taking a bend during 10 seconds exposure time.

When I
looked out of the bedroom window this morning I saw the sky being
covered with all kinds of plane stripes. Looked like a beautiful
abstract painting. Diemen is only a few miles away from the national
airport Schiphol. Diemen, 7.57 am.

Strange.
This spot in my suburbian hometown is so artificial, that I sense
about the same mixture of surrealism and poetry I felt yesterday at
the Antwerp cemetery. Or was it only the exceptional weather, a very
early spring. Diemen, 4.24 pm
March 7.
One of the
things Martin and I often do is visiting the main cemetery in
Antwerp. It is called Schoonselhof which means something like garden
of beautiful things. There is a slightly alienating atmosphere, a
mixture between poetry, surrealism and a whiff of sadness &
eternity. Antwerpen, 1.30 pm.
March 6.
I find
myself in the last carriage of the train to Antwerp, where I am going
to visit a friend. I am rediscovering the square format.

I love to watch small
details in photographs, which just aren't right. Here the small red
pole lies on a wrong spot. In this way it emphasizes the perfect
banality of the picture. The perfect banal can be a very strong
issue in photography. Something else: Marco (see february 25th
) and I had a little discussion about my photography. In the 1st place he called me a
location photographer . He is right. Diemen, 12.09 am.

Ever
since I heard this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdF4DFjzCBI
, I cannot pass a weeping willow without humming the song. But, for
sure, they are beautiful trees, especially on
a sunny day in March. Diemen, 4.52 pm.

This photograph hangs on
our wall as a souvenir of our cycle trip through
Ireland. We are standing at the highest pass of the counry, about 450
meters above sealevel. Beautiful weather and a quick descent ahead of
us. Where we took a wrong road to ride an extra 20 kilometers. Diemen, 10.50 am.

I like this
photograph. Firstly for its subject matter, the rectangular
apartments, which makes a monotonous, not to say depressing
impression in the background. This effect is emphasized by the dark
heap of dark soil in the foreground. (which is actually the center of
a new roundabout, in summer there will be grass growing on it I
assume). Secondly The actual flatness of the picture. The proportion
between the dark and light parts of the image is balanced in a way
that it becomes very flat. 3 D seems to disappear. Thirdly the
light. The sun disappearing behind a bunch of hazy clouds, so a very
soft light source is at my back. Diemen, 4.23 pm.

This is a
very quiet photograph of a very quiet afternoon in a very quiet
suburb of Amsterdam. Diemen, 4.11 pm.
February 26.
I had to
kill some time at Utrecht Central Station, so I walked for a while
around the shopping mall next to the station. I passed a traverse and
looking through the windows at the underneath passing rush hour
traffic I saw the beautiful combination of the red tail lights of the
cars and the reflection of the shopping windows and the rushing
people in the traverse. I love this magic, which becomes visible by
the power of the one-eyed King, the photo camera. Utrecht, 6.50 pm.

Was in a small pub with
friend & collegue Marco Middelkoop (the
best flying photographer I know, see
http://www.aerophoto-schiphol.nl/fotograaf.html
. But also a very fine dance photographer! Most of all a very nice
human being). Anyway I tried to shoot his
portrait, but the light was very poor. Only blurry
results. Then, during postprocessing, I decided for a triptych.
Which exactly expresses what I thought & felt during our
conversation. Amsterdam, 5.54 pm.

I was
intrigued by the somewhat sinister look of the power plant behind the
row of trees. This an example of the little bit romantic way of
capturing the scenery of Diemen. Diemen, 3.16 pm.
maandag, februari 23, 2015
February 23.
The way I
am capturing the scenery of Diemen, my suburbian hometown, is pending
between a little bit romantic way and a more formal, more or less
topographic way. This photograph is an example of the latter. I had
the feeling that everything in this new dwelling quarter is designed
in a very strict and rectangular way. Almost boring. Notice the color
of the car parked near the dark house. Almost a perfect match in very
severe colors. Diemen, 3.46 pm.

Sometimes
it is quite interesting to notice how by some simple adjustments
residents of an everyday dwelling can make something more personal
out of their home. Just a yellow traffic sign will do. Diemen, 4.04

Went to the
Rothko exhibition today with a friend. Overcrowded. To many
spectators for paintings which I hesitate to consider as
masterpieces. Anyway I went to the Sol Lewitt stairway, and I saw
this zebra shirted lady watching her email on the Iphone.

A
parking lot with pruned trees in winter. Paradox of tension & an
atmosphere of nothing is gonna happen here. The ultimate expression of
nothingness. Diemen 4.16 pm.
