“Un piccolo souvenir dalla Sardegna” # 5

“Un piccolo souvenir dalla Sardegna” contains photographs I took during a holiday Petra and I made at the beginning of May this year on the island of Sardinia. I want to create a kind of transition from faction into fiction. Photography (mine anyway) is always based on capturing facts. But sometimes as a photographer you frame things in the context of space and time in such a way that the subject is more or less getting a life of its own, like fiction. Anyway, have a look. Nevertheless it was a brilliant journey on a wonderful island. Photograph: 19/5/4 Castel Sardo 4.12 pm.

February 13.

There was that beautiful contrast at the other side of the canal between the pink roof & the perfect blue sky & the photograph was there. And yes. It was very friendly weather, Spring in the air. Diemen, 4.12 pm.

January 28

Outdoors there is some terrible weather going on, rain & storm. So time to do something in the house. A close-up of a small jar in which my sweet wife keeps dried garlic. Great stuff to put into a soup! Diemen, 3.19 pm.

January 15

One of the specialties of photography is the ability to make boring places more vivid. This a small parking lot not far from the spot where I live. I consider it a rather ugly place, especially if it is such a grey rainy day as today. Still the photograph has some vivid elements. This photo fits into one of my ongoing projects, a series about spots in my hometown Diemen. It is about the feeling I have about these places, to me it is as if Diemen is still unfinished. More about Diemen to follow during this year. Diemen, 3.14 pm.

Vanwege Fragmentarische Aard (129) Because of a Fragmentic Nature (129)

Waiting for the last train home. Or did they miss it.
Amsterdam, 13/10/16, 0.31am
As I told before, just letters are to me miraculous signs. In itself they have no meaning, they just look odd. Amsterdam, 13/09/23, 10.25pm
Reflections and content of a shopping window. Only a photograph can combine this into one subject. Amsterdam, 13/09/28, 1.42pm

About Tricycles

Ever since I got hold of William Eggleston’s Guide (http://www.bol.com/nl/p/william-eggleston-s-guide/1001004001761060/) I developed a  fascination for tricycles in a picture. So when I saw the upper one last summer in Ireland, I just couldn’t resist it. A lonely tricycle has always something sad to me.
The other photos were taken in Greece and Diemen-Holland.

Zomaar *13 (Just Like That *13)

“The democratic camera”. This term, invented by William Eggleston, one of my big heroes, is the title of a workshop I’ll be giving at “Buitenkunst” this summer. It will be about how the photo camera can turn everyday situations and subjects into icons of beauty. Photoshop post processing will be allowed, but only to emphasize some characteristics!

Diemer Plek # 66 (Sites from Diemen NL # 66)

What I want to accomplish in my pictures of my hometown Diemen, that somewhat sleepy suburb of Amsterdam, is the perfect image of banality.
My spots of Diemen are commonplaces, but by choosing a perfect point of view, and some postprocessing, I want to express the somewhat surrealistic atmosphere of some ordinary places.
