Greetings from Diemen NL #18

-Sitting Duck in Diemen-

(Often when I go out into my hometown Diemen, the somewhat sleepy suburb of Big City Amsterdam, I take my camera with me. I try to capture accidental beauty and sometimes unplanned alienation of the banal aspects of the everyday scenery. I started to do this from 2004, the year we came to live here, at first in black and white, from 2006 in color.)

From my Shoebox #8

One of my favourite subject matters: Trees in the Woods. This made and makes me think of a very open animal beak. Photo: Overveen-Netherlands april 1988. Made with my good old Rolleiflex, which I just obtained that month.

March 22.

Sometimes it is necessary to add an extra element to a photograph to emphasize the atmosphere at a spot. Here I used the shadow of my hand. Diemen, 5.03 pm.

March 17.

Strange spot. These trunks are all that is left from a beautiful park. All because of some motor highways. Progress? Yes, Ladies & Gents I am a romantic soul. Diemen, 4.55 pm.

March 4.

I love to watch small details in photographs, which just aren't right. Here the small red pole lies on a wrong spot. In this way it emphasizes the perfect banality of the picture. The perfect banal can be a very strong issue in photography. Something else: Marco (see february 25th ) and I had a little discussion about my photography. In the 1st place he called me a location photographer . He is right. Diemen, 12.09 am.

March 3.

Ever since I heard this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdF4DFjzCBI , I cannot pass a weeping willow without humming the song. But, for sure, they are beautiful trees, especially on a sunny day in March. Diemen, 4.52 pm.

February 24.

I was intrigued by the somewhat sinister look of the power plant behind the row of trees. This an example of the little bit romantic way of capturing the scenery of Diemen. Diemen, 3.16 pm.

February 16.

A parking lot with pruned trees in winter. Paradox of tension & an atmosphere of nothing is gonna happen here. The ultimate expression of nothingness. Diemen 4.16 pm.

February 5.

At 3.45 pm this afternoon the shadow of my apartment was perpendicular to the ditch along the road, where a cyclist passed by. Diemen, 3.45 pm.

January 22.

Strange place in Diemen, my hometown. I think the architect has been looking very superficially to Mondrian. Diemen, Havikskruid, 3.44 pm.

Het land langs # 25 (Along the Country Side # 25)

Up: Cycling around the country I saw this . Two years ago there was a huge fire at this spot. This tree was the only tree trunk that was left. This image was made on a day that planes flew over and left their white stripes in the blue. I love this photo because these phenomena leave a strange uncanny atmosphere. (Schoorlse Duinen 14/05/16 4.21 pm)
Under: Some miles further on north. Very strange arrow on the cycle lane. Also strange almost unreal atmosphere. (Schoorlse Duinen 14/06/20 4.42 pm)
