“Un piccolo souvenir dalla Sardegna” contains photographs I took during a holiday Petra and I made at the beginning of May this year on the island of Sardinia. I want to create a kind of transition from faction into fiction. Photography (mine anyway) is always based on capturing facts. But sometimes as a photographer you frame things in the context of space and time in such a way that the subject is more or less getting a life of its own, like fiction. Anyway, have a look. Nevertheless it was a brilliant journey on a wonderful island.

A.D. 2018 # 9.

Stay put and travel. Meanwhile the landscape is flashing past. Sitting in a bus is sometimes a form of meditation. Bus is driving at the highway at the Afsluitdijk, a 20 miles long dike between an artificial lake and the sea in the north of Holland. Photograph: Afsluitdijk (NL), 8/19, 18.22 pm. New Exhibition!

Seaward at Night. Castricum on the Sea.

There’s something strange about spots in the night. Everything that looks normal in daylight often becomes frightening, mysterious or magical in the dark.

Essentially the night is just a big black box in which all kinds of things exist. Things which are natural as well as things which are man made. Sometimes these things become visible, mostly by artificial light. A feeling of disorientation arises. One knows there’s something out there, but it stays invisible. What’s waiting in the dark? In my pictures this atmosphere is captured. There’s also a distance from everyday life, calmness and concentration; moods which are often to be felt at night.

The secret of the night is revealed from the parking lot onto the beach!

It may look like Hawaii on a quiet day, but the picture was taken at the Dutch bathing resort Zandvoort on a rather windy day. Zandvoort, 15/4/24, 2.58 pm.  

March 20.

This was the only way today to capture the calmness of the sea today. There was a very fragile silence. Castricum aan Zee, 1.17 pm.

At night by the Seaside.

Being at night by the seaside is a magical experience. It is alienating, strange. It feels a bit like being on another planet.

Het land langs # 19 (Along the Country Side # 19)

Last Sunday I cycled along the ‘Hondbosse Zeewering’.  It is a seawall against the North Sea. Very strange place. A soon as I arrive at the strip of asphalt at the foot of the I was blown in my face by the enormous space. (You have to enlarge the images by clicking it. Otherwise you could for instance easily miss the seagulls in the right upper corner of the first image.)

Zelfportret # 133 & 134 (Self portrait # 133 & 134)

Two self portraits: The b and w one was made during my last week of workshopping at Buitenkunst, in the morning, waiting for a new joyful day to com. (As you can see, I’m never at my best in the morning).
The picture of the wave with my faint shadow on it could be a point of discussion. Is it still a self portrait? This kind of question will certainly arise during my next week of giving a workshop at Buitenkunst, which has as main subject Self Portrait. I’m leaving Saturday and I’ll be back one week later. After that I’ll be off for Rome and Milano for a short trip with my sun Jonas, because he successfully passed his exam this spring.
So I’ll be back in about three weeks. Stay tuned.

Als ik buiten ben en de koude Noordenwind windkracht 6 giert om mijn met een IJsmuts bedekte hoofd, kristalliseert zich in het brein onder die muts een diep verlangen naar een warm en groot zomerstrand…

Vanwege Fragmentarische Aard (47)

Werken aan een boek betekent ook vervelende keuzes maken. Deze foto is me dierbaar omdar de 2 figuurtjes precies op de goede plek staan en de sfeer op de foto zo mooi melancholiek is. Maar ik krijg hem niet goed geplaatst in het boek. Dus gebruik ik hem niet.

Heen en Weer naar Finland.

De familie Bijsterbosch heeft tijdens de zeer genotvolle reis in Zweden (waarover later meer) ook een kort tripje met de boot naar een Fins eiland gemaakt. Om precies te zijn van Grimlehamn naar het eiland Ǻland, met het kleine plaatsje Eckerö aan een sprookjesachtige kust .
Overigens vertrek ik morgen voor 2 ½ week naar Buitenkunst, om workshops te geven. Op 14 augustus of daaromtrent wordt dit log weer actief. Keep in touch!
