 “Shop window in the Shop window”

When: March 17, 2022 to April 25, 2022.

Where: Raamgalerie Filmstudio Franjo, 2-e van der Helststraat 41, 1073 AH Amsterdam

Open: Daily, 9am to 11pm.

Fashion stores, jewelers, bakers, McDonalds, travel agencies, garages, museums, galleries, souvenir shops, department stores, hotels and much more. Photographer Jaap Bijsterbosch walks by and always looks at the shop window through the viewfinder of his camera. He sometimes registers the content or message of the shop window, but also often the interplay between the shop window and the environment in which the shop window is located. Through the single lens of the camera, the street scene reflected in the shop window can be combined with the contents of the shop window to create alienating images, often with a poetic or surreal slant. Bijsterbosch also has no objection whatsoever to giving his own reflection in the window pane an important role as a (determining) element.

During the years 1984, 1985 and 1986 I made three photo journeys in the UK. Because of the upcoming Brexit, which I utterly regret, I will occasionally post a photograph from the project “Those British Atmospheres”. Ireland again.

Next fortnight I’ll be a picture taking passer-by in Ireland. If wifi allows I’ll post a photo from time to time. But tomorrow from tropical Holland to fresh Ireland. Lovely!

April 14

It was a wrong idea to take and publish a photo every day. One photo a day doesn't work for me (anymore). It is very compulsive and often forces me to take the wrong creative decisions. So I decided to quit and give myself ample time to breath freely and photograph when everything is right. Especially time and opportunity. Also I will take the freedom to post some former photos of which I think that they are interesting for more people. Today a selfie I made some time ago in a train toilet. 11/11/06

11/11 is a project I am doing just during this month. Every day I want to make a photograph. The content has something to do with the month of November. Yesterday Petra and I visited my brother. He drove us from the train station in Almelo to his home in Germany. I was struck by the somewhat gloomy atmosphere of the November Landscape.
I am making a book out of these November pictures. Every image will be accompanied by some words. The text by this photograph is “MEMORY LANE”.

Al een poosje ontdek ik (opnieuw) dat je soms maar heel weinig elementen nodig hebt om een spannend en inhoudsvol beeld vast te leggen. Soms geldt inderdaad hoe minder hoe beter! In een stil dorp als Diemen gaat dat trouwens min of meer vanzelf.
Bedenk ook dat deze foto’s ontstaan tijdens het boodschappen doen.
