Sometimes
you just lay down in a small and overheated hotel room after a whole walking
around in a strange town. Belfast, 2017/09/01.
Photographic sketch book made by the Dutch photographer Jaap Bijsterbosch. Oogenblikjaap means just a moment Jaap, but also eye and view Jaap. So dear visitor, stay awhile and have a look around!

The Irish
call the last Sunday in July “Reek Sunday”. The Reek is the nick name for
Croagh Patrick, a mountain of 764 meters high in the west of Ireland. The last Sunday
of July thousands of Irish are climbing to the top to celebrate that in the
year 441 St. Patrick climbed the mountain and prayed for the blessing of Ireland.
In 1990 I joined. It was a rainy day. My lens got wet. It looked a bit like Fellini in Ireland. The last photo today
was made on the same spot as the one yesterday. All photos were shot at
07/29/1990.

Observing people
at uncommon places is a delight when travelling around. This picture was made
at Murrisk in Ireland, at the start of a pilgrimage to the top of Croagh
Patrick, the holy mountain of Ireland. I did walk it in 1990, more about that
tomorrow. Photo: Murrisk, Ireland, 2017/9/6.

Travelling,
how does it affect your observations: when I am travelling I do see special,
almost alienating effects in normal everyday situations, which I normally wouldn’t
see. Shot this one in Prague tram, while escaping from the overcrowded touristic
city center. Photo: Prague, 2019/9/4. 1.29pm.

Visitors in front
of “The Sampling Officials of the Drapers'
Guild”, painted by Rembrandt van Rijn,
1662. Photo: April 1981, National Museum Amsterdam. It was quiet in the
Museum those days. Now it is quiet too, for the time being I hope.

Shot at Florence may 1985. Another proof of the unreliability of photograhy. There is an atmosphere of quietness in the photo. In reality the square in front of the sleeping guy was swarming with tourists an screaming children.

Photo shot December
1985. Sometimes it was snowing so hard, that I had to change films in a
telephone booth (!). There was snow in my camera (Nikon F2). After drying the device
on the train heating it was working perfectly again.
