Het land langs # 22 (Along the Country Side # 22)

My weblog & Facebook friends may have noticed that I did not publish new posts for a while. I was away, giving some workshops at Buitenkunst (www.buitenkunst.nl) . Which in itself a very inspiring activity. For me, and I hope for my participants too. My groups made some beautiful presentations, among them a big slide show in the theatre about photographing democratically. Which has to do with treating equally every element in the photo, every detail is of the same importance. Looking for the perfect banal.

In another workshop my group made a beautiful show of photographs as a décor for a concert of tango music.

Very inspiring, but I can’t find hardly the time to take new photographs and more over to think of new stories.

But sometimes I can bike around for a while and take some typical Dutch Landscape Pictures.

UP: This was made from an artificial little hill. Yes, it’s my bike in the left corner underneath.

Last Wednesday afternoon I cycled along the dike between Lelystad en Muiden. I had the wind at my back. It was a perfect afternoon. When I am cycling my thoughts become very clear.

Het land langs # 14 (Along the Country Side # 14)

A few days ago I came back from 2 fantastic weeks of work at the Dutch foundation “BUITENKUNST”. For more information take a look at the website. I was giving 2 workshops there: one week at my own about the making of an own photobook and one general week of photography with my wonderful college FEMKE VAN HEUGTEN, a very good photographer and teacher.

At the grounds of Buitenkunst many kinds of workshops are given: sculpture, painting but also singing, theatre, music, poetry ect. 

The workshops are given during daytime, in the evening there are lots of presentations, shows, performances, exhibitions. There is often a hectic, almost electrifying atmosphere, which is very inspiring for both teachers as well as participants.

Everybody sleeps at the terrain.  Some evenings  I felt the need for a moment for some rest and peace and I took my bike for a small tour in the surroundings.

Buitenkunst is in a part of Holland which used to be sea 60 years ago. So you find a rather artificial land, very flat. I tried to make metaphorical landscapes, with thanks to painting college RENÉ DE ROOZE, whose workshop gave me the final idea.

Moreover all the colleges were a great & warm team to work with! And almost every participant was very eager to learn.

Panorama van Stilte

Terug van Buitenkunst fiets ik bij voorkeur over de Knardijk naar station Almere Oostvaarders, alwaar ik rijwiel en mezelf op de trein naar huis zet.
Al fietsend glijdt de hektiek van 3 weken workshops geven van me af en valt de stilte van het wijde land als een zacht dekentje over me heen.

De Knardijk.

De Knardijk is de oude dijk tussen Oostelijk Flevoland (droogevallen in 1957) en Zuidelijk Flevoland (droogevallen in 1968). Tegenwoordig ligt er een fraai fietspad op en langs de dijk. Het een favoriete route voor mij als ik naar Buitenkunst fiets om workshops te geven of als ik na een periode Buitenkunst naar huis fiets.
De wind en de ruimte maken het hoofd leeg en de gedachten helder.

Flevoland

Terugfietsend van Buitenkunst was het me weer duidelijk: Flevoland heeft het mooiste bedachte landschap dat ik ken.
