Vanwege Fragmentarische Aard (118) Because of a Fragmentic Nature (118)

Reflections, for instance in shopping windows or train windows, when the train is riding through a tunnel, can be a powerful tool to create strange images.  One can combine two worlds that in reality are different ones into just one image. This results into an image which is in fact impossible. We don’t see it, because we look at the world with two eyes. This allows us to perceive depth. The camera can’t do it, it has only one lens.
This is the reason I often look at shopping windows with one eye closed.

Vanwege Fragmentarische Aard (117) Because of a Fragmentic Nature (117)

One the things I’m attracted to lately: Small human figures in a spatial environment. I’m using also reflections and overexposed areas in the photograph to emphasize a feeling of strangeness.
I am using just small compact cameras for doing this, fully aware of the fact that I cannot print the pictures at a size of 3 x 4 meters. But what the heck? If the idea bind the photo is ok, size doesn’t really matter. It’s the idea that counts, not the size stupid!

Het land langs # 15 (Along the Country Side # 15)

Last Saturday it was beautiful weather. I made a trip on my bike. It is possible to cycle very close to the only steelworks in Holland. The combination of a deep blue sky and the strange scenery gave me the feeling of being on another planet.

Vanwege Fragmentarische Aard (116) (Because of a Fragmentic Nature (116)

Belgium has many specialties. One is race cycling. So do not be surprised if you descend a train and on the station square a race is going on. With a speed of about 60-65 kmph (37-40 mph)  the riders are storming by, very close to the edge of the pavement. Some people watch the race with great enthusiasm and lots of beer, others are quite indifferent. Luckily it was a local round, so I had the chance to capture the speed from different angles and places. Who won? I found out later that night at the internet it was a Dutchman!
